The first credit union in America was organized to provide financial security to people of ordinary means. Today, credit unions constitute a modern, sophisticated financial system. However, their purpose is still to meet the financial needs of the average consumer. The Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union was chartered in November of 1949 as the Kansas State Teachers Federal Credit Union. The credit union started from the desk drawer of P. A. Hoberholtzer, the organizer of the credit union and its first member. For a short period the credit union was operated out of the College Bookstore on the Pittsburg State University campus. In November of 1960, the credit union changed from a federal charter to a state charted and became S.E.K. Teachers Credit Union.

At this time the credit union moved to 105 W 5th Street and hired its first full time manager Al Blom. After the retirement of Mr. Blom in 1983, Henry Buset became the new president. Henry managed the credit union until his retirement in 2002. Mark Kolarik is the current President of the credit union. In 1968 the credit union moved into a larger facility and established it's presence on Broadway Street in Pittsburg. In 1975, the credit union changed its name to Kansas Teachers Credit Union. When membership and services grew the credit union once again experienced growing pains. The building at 416 North Broadway was built in 1982 and moved into in December of that year. In July of 1999, a branch was establishment in Independence, KS; in 2003, a branch was located in Coffeyville, KS and in 2008, a branch was located in Fort Scott, KS.

Our name has since been modified to Kansas Teachers Community Credit Union to better reflect our purposes to serve local communities. We continue to make service to our members a priority item while striving to meet their financial needs. KTCCU's mission statement is to be a sound, quality-driven organization that provides the most desirable financial services for members while safeguarding their assets.
